Sonerim Values and Structure: Inside and Out

You already know everything about Sonerim’s history (you can read about it here). Now, it’s time to find out a couple of interesting facts about our spirit, that is, our corporate culture, values, structure, and team. Here we go!

  1. Sonerim Corporate Culture – Main Aspects
  • What we look for in our colleagues and offer our clients

We could have resorted to a vast list of catchphrases, buzzwords, and smart definitions of professionalism, ambitiousness, sacrifice for a team’s sake, and so on. However, we don’t like boasting or empty words that try to hide a reluctance to pay more. That’s why we offer you a short story of how we have been growing and which of our qualities have helped us most to get to where we are now.

We told you at the beginning that one of our founding fathers started his business from scratch with just a few friends. Such a small team meant that everyone had to be well-versed in a great number of spheres and technologies. No one denies the importance of wide horizons and encyclopedic knowledge, but one just can’t be an expert in everything.

Since the onset, the basis of our recruitment strategy has been the belief that every new specialist welcomed to the company must know their way around their sphere much better than we do. We believed—and still do—that expertise rules the world.

As the company continued to grow, our forebearers found it increasingly difficult to stay in the know with all projects. That is the reason why independence plays the first violin in our orchestra. The main metric to measure this quality is very simple: every team member has to reduce the number of questions arising in the project by solving them and not creating new ones.

At times, some cases do need to be escalated and solved at an entirely different level, but these are exceptions rather than the norm. In any case, our team is always there to help if a team member needs it.

  • Everyday communication with clients and colleagues

Unlike some famous companies, we aren’t ideal. We admit that several times, we did screw things up due to various reasons. The ‘pits of dishonor’ we admit to were caused by:

  • insufficient managerial qualifications,
  • a lack of developers’ hard skills, and
  • particular clients.

However,  frankness and openness on all sides allow prevention of the greater part of such situations. We can happily solve every issue, especially if we address it right away.

Another important thing for us is keeping our promise. If we agree to complete certain tasks within the given timeframe, we know that every team member relies on us, and we can’t fail them.

The coolest job-related thing is the utmost comfort in communication with colleagues. And we are happy to have it! Also important is a good sense of humor and friendliness that can’t be exaggerated.

You could call us ‘family’ as we celebrate the most important holidays together and often spend our free time outdoors playing different sports and games and having picnics.

  1. Sonerim Structure

You’ve already learned from the above that we don’t like bureaucracy and formalities. It concerns both our communication and the company’s structure. In general, we employ a flat and dynamic structure. It means that a team member doesn’t need to pass a long line of lower and middle managers to get in contact with C-level executives and co-founders. They can directly address Denys Shokotko (the CTO and Co-Founder) or Artem Gaiday (the CEO) to answer any questions our employees might have.

Based on the areas of focus, Sonerim is divided into two parts:

  1. the technical department and
  2. the business development department.

Our technical department houses top-tier developers specializing in different technologies: Java, JS, DevOps, mobile applications for iOS and Android, and others.

Our business development department includes specialists in sales, HR and recruitment, content, and the company’s management. The main task of this group of experts is to enable an uninterrupted and comfortable workflow in the technical department.

Sonerim stretches a helping hand to young entrepreneurs. We gladly support tech start-up initiatives. If a team member has a product idea or is already toiling at some product of their own in their free time, we’ll assist and support them as much as we can. Of course, every idea is unique and requires an individual approach. The level of our cooperation and involvement can differ: from practical consultations and valuable contacts of people who could help you to investments or joint development of your project.

For instance, one of our portfolio cases, the Fisherman Navigator App, can illustrate such cooperation. This app, created by our colleague Michael, has over a million downloads on Google Play Market. Michael started developing an Android app on his own; a bit later, the company backed the development of the iOS version financially.

  1. Sonerim Team

Our company’s most significant treasure is our people. Almost all team members have been cooperating with the company since day one. We even have a dynasty to be proud of—an entire family has been working with us for many years.

The first years of Sonerim’s life witnessed gradual growth in employee numbers. Today our team has almost 30 highly-skilled specialists and counting.

We also have several ‘fluffy employees’ — our pets. The company’s office has always been a pet-friendly workplace where you could give a stroke to a cat or a dog; working in the remote mode, we continue to share our pets’ pics and funny stories about them.

All employees have a higher education (in some cases, even two) and speak several foreign languages fluently. They are responsible and resilient; they know how to manage stress and work under extreme conditions (like all Ukrainians, by the way!)

As for new employees, in 2022-2023, the Sonerim team has onboarded six talented specialists in different spheres. This 20% growth in team size is an impressive number for a small-scale company like Sonerim. The company managed to maintain its high efficiency of work delivered by several developers’ teams due to an absence of layoffs and the flexibility of management.

To sum it up, we can say that the Sonerim team is here to help its clients by all possible means. We value the human factor and strive to bring passion and care to all our projects.
