Outline:
Intro
The full-scale war in Ukraine has been going on for more than a year. It left not a single person intact. Despite this calamity, Ukrainian IT companies in general – and Sonerim in particular – strive to maintain the highest possible level of services they offer their foreign clients. Unfortunately, some clients and investors are doubtful about starting long-term cooperation with teams from a hotspot country.
So, we’ve created this material to answer possible questions, eliminate all doubts, and prove that we can deliver brilliant results despite difficult circumstances. We still work at a high-quality level. To bring it home, we’ll tell you about our goals, changes, ways to cope with wartime challenges, and more.
Sonerim current situation
Some of our clients asked us about the possibility of a war outbreak as early as the beginning of February 2022. Like most Ukrainians, we told our clients about the presence of certain risks, but we sincerely believed nothing would happen. We kept on working.
Starting 24 February 2022, we had three priorities:
Adaptation and evolvement have become our North Stars in wartime. Sonerim has managed to deliver all ongoing projects the company had during the outbreak of hostilities in March 2022. Since then, we have started working on several projects and completed them, welcomed new team members, and witnessed encouraging revenue growth.
As for new employees, in 2022-2023, the Sonerim team onboarded six talented specialists in different spheres. This 20% growth in team size is an impressive number for a small-scale company like Sonerim.
The company managed to maintain the high efficiency of work delivered by several developers’ teams due to the absence of mass layoffs and the flexibility of management.
Sonerim employees’ safety
For Sonerim, the safety of its employees isn’t all cry and no wolf. We do care about our people: the majority of those who remained in Ukraine are now in relatively safe locations, hundreds of kilometers away from the zones of active military operations. Some employees have relocated to Western Europe and other countries around the world. The current location of every Sonerim specialist is a safe place, equipped with the necessary tools for emergency cases (power banks, generators, Starlink Internet terminals, etc.) and a solid emergency plan.
Some clients may worry that the developers working on their projects might be called into military service. They can think this unexpected interruption might disrupt the successfully established workflow and harm their projects. We’ve got the answer: to date, only one team member is in the Armed Forces. He is a volunteer, and the company is incredibly proud of him, supporting him in all situations that might arise.
Let’s consider the case when one of your developers decides to go fighting for his native land and the freedom of his nation. In this case, Sonerim will do everything to keep the project going, by engaging other specialists or undertaking other necessary steps. We know how to keep your world moving.
The actual war maps
Due to the rapid advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in September-October 2022, the frontline was stabilized. Later, the Ukrainian Army liberated many territories occupied by the aggressor in February-March 2022, including the whole of the Kharkiv region and a part of the Luhansk region in the east, the city of Kherson in the south, and others. Active military actions are mainly in the Donbas region in the east.
It’s getting safer in many regions, especially in the country’s west. Ordinary life is returning to these places because:
Sonerim volunteering
Volunteering activities and charity initiatives constitute an essential part of our current life in Sonerim. The company’s high-level management and ordinary employees participate in fundraising programs aimed at the humanitarian and financial support of Ukrainian citizens who suffer from the war.
We also donate to foundations and organizations (such as ‘Come Back Alive,’ ‘Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation,’ ‘Razom for Ukraine,’ and ‘United24’) that procure military equipment for the UAF and territorial defense forces.
Outro
They say, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. With our activities, we debunk myths about the crash of the Ukrainian IT sphere, showing that what has emerged is more robust and resilient than before. Actually, it has emerged victorious, just like the UAF and Ukrainian society.
The Ukrainian IT sphere showed the world all the benefits of hiring Ukrainian developers: a high professional level, impressive expertise, affordable budget, stress resilience, skills to work in any conditions, and many more.
Slava Ukraini!

Employing a full-fledged software development team may not be possible for start-ups and medium-sized businesses, sometimes even for big enterprises.
